Tyres

Tyres fitted, and a look at why the old ones wore the way they did.

Open 9am to 5pm weekdays and 9am to 3pm weekends

Service One Automotive fits tyres at Factory 9, 266 Osborne Avenue, Clayton South VIC 3169. If the old tyres have worn unevenly, that can point to a wheel alignment or suspension problem, and the workshop handles both. Ring or text 0434 949 091. Open 9am to 5pm weekdays and 9am to 3pm weekends.

Tyres fitted

We fit tyres. Ring or text 0434 949 091 with the make and model and the tyre size, which is printed on the sidewall, and we will arrange a time.

What the old tyres can tell you

How a tyre has worn says something about the car. Wear concentrated on one edge often points to the wheel alignment. Patchy, scalloped wear can point to worn suspension.

Both are worth sorting when new tyres go on, because a new tyre on a car with the same problem wears out the same way. Wheel alignment and suspension repairs are both work we do here.

When a tyre is finished

Every tyre has small bars moulded into the bottom of the grooves. They sit at 1.5 millimetres, the legal minimum tread depth in Victoria. When the tread is level with them anywhere across the tyre, it needs replacing.

A cut or a bulge in the sidewall means the same thing, whatever the tread looks like.

Signs a tyre needs attention

  • The tread is level with the wear bars anywhere across the tyre
  • There is a cut, a crack or a bulge in the sidewall
  • One edge is worn noticeably more than the rest of the tread
  • The car pulls to one side, or the steering wheel sits off centre
  • The same tyre keeps losing pressure

Questions about tyres

Do you fit tyres?

Yes. Ring or text 0434 949 091 with the make, model and tyre size and we will arrange a time.

My old tyres wore out on one edge. Why?

Usually the wheel alignment, sometimes worn suspension. It is worth checking before new tyres go on, or they will wear the same way.

Should I get a wheel alignment with new tyres?

It is worth having it checked. Fitting new tyres to a car that is out of alignment wears them out early.
